08. Diamond Information
How are lab-grown diamonds made?
The lab-grown diamonds we select for our pieces are classified as Type 2A - grown using the Chemical Vapour Deposition, or CVD method. To generate the CVD process, a seed from a mined diamond is planted in a low-pressure microwave chamber. Hydrogen and methane gases are then introduced, and a microwave generator pumps energy in, igniting a glowing plasma ball. Carbon molecules rain on the seed, layering on top of it and fast-tracking the natural crystallisation process. The entire growing process is then able to be completed within six to ten weeks.
At lotus jewels, we only hand select our CVD diamonds that are far superior in terms of fire, brilliance and scintillation, when compared to the other method of HPHT (high pressure, high temperature).
How do I pick the colour and clarity of the diamond?
Choosing the right diamond colour and clarity depends on your personal preferences, budget, and the overall look you're after. Our diamond specialists are here to guide you through the process, helping you understand how colour and clarity impact a diamond’s appearance, value, and sparkle. Some clients prefer a whiter stone, while others are happy to trade a slight hint of warmth for a larger size or higher clarity. We’ll walk you through the options and recommend the best balance for your needs—whether you’re after a bright, icy white diamond or a perfectly eye-clean stone that offers exceptional brilliance.
To help you make an informed decision, we use the internationally recognised GIA (Gemological Institute of America) grading system, which sets the standard for diamond quality.
Diamond Colour is graded on a scale from D to Z:
D–F: Colourless — these diamonds are the rarest and most valuable, with a bright, icy white appearance.
G–J: Near Colourless — these offer excellent value and appear white to the untrained eye, especially when set in yellow or rose gold.
K–Z: Faint to Light Colour — these diamonds have a noticeable warm tint, which may appeal to those seeking a vintage or softer look.
Diamond Clarity is graded based on the presence of internal (inclusions) and external (blemishes) characteristics:
FL–IF (Flawless to Internally Flawless): Extremely rare, with no visible inclusions even under 10x magnification.
VVS1–VVS2 (Very, Very Slightly Included): Inclusions are minute and very difficult to see under magnification.
VS1–VS2 (Very Slightly Included): Inclusions are small and difficult to detect without magnification—an excellent balance of quality and value.
SI1–SI2 (Slightly Included): Inclusions may be visible under magnification or to the naked eye, but many are still "eye-clean" and offer great value.
I1–I3 (Included): Inclusions are obvious and may affect brilliance or durability.
Where do your diamonds come from?
All diamonds come paired with GIA, IGI or HRD certification, and have been carefully hand selected from one of our manufacturing partners rough inventory - located in New York, Surat and Antwerp.Â
If you've been quoted for a specific diamond elsewhere, feel free to share the details with us. In many cases, we can source the exact same diamond—or a comparable one of equal quality—at a more competitive price. Thanks to our strong supplier relationships and transparent pricing, we’re often able to offer better value without compromising on quality. Let us know what you've been shown, and we’ll do our best to match or beat it.
